a remember

     This picture is very important for me because it represents my first year at university, however we doesn’t look pretty in the picture it doesn’t matter. The important is that appears on it some of my first best friends from university.

     The picture it’s a classic, we where on a morning break in winter, seated on the floor taking sun and it was taken by another friend.

     The sad is that most of my friends left the career, so I don’t see them very often, but when I see them is great. At 2009 we spent like all the day together, because we where always at university; from 8.30 to 7 or more. I think in any career it is very important to have friends, especially in my career, because you are always working in groups and also when you have to work alone, you need a piece of advice. So we supported each other and studied together.  

CRASH

     Crash is a 2004 drama film directed by Paul Haggis.

     The film takes place in Los Angeles, California and it is about racial and social tensions.

     There are different characters who met themselves during two days by circumstantial occasions. There exist the classic white cop, who is racist and do whatever he wants to black people without respect of the law because he has power, and on the other hand there exist another officer who isn’t racist and wants to be good with them.

     Also there exist other characters, like the burglar, the family guy, etc. The interesting thing of the movie is watching what everybody thinks, the prejudice they have by both sides, and how they meet each other and help or hurt themselves.

     I saw this movie on the cable three years ago and it surprise me, it is not my favorite movie, but I Iiked it a lot, it makes you want to enter inside the tv and interfere.

Website

For every work I have to do for workshop; which is the most important subject in my career  I first start investigating; watching images, reading and looking some references. I use google, but my main support is the website www.plataformaarquitectura.cl .It was created by some students from Catholic University and it’s one of the most popular and visited websites between people who study architecture.

The web consist on a main page with a title and a picture of a project, where you can click to view more information or search any project or subject you want, also there exist a section with the options you can search, like architects, ecology, houses, buildings, etc.

This website provides pictures, information and plans of the project and also a map from google earth that shows where it is located, so it helps you understanding the project, but every thing is in jpg, so it is for research only.

I use this website every week because it is very useful and easy to understand.

my dogs

As I have told you before, I have a dog. His name is Luca, he is eleven years old, it´s a boxer and it is beautiful.  We treat him as part of the family and he is always in the house sharing with us.

We were fine with one dog, but on May my sister, who has 24 and doesn´t control herself appeared with a puppy from the street.  She said that she wanted to offer that dog to someone in the park, but that never happened and now she is part of the family too. They named her Moira (In my opinion it is an ugly name). At first I wasn´t very happy with this new dog because of the responsibilities and because she destroys everything and also made poop in my room,  but now I´m liking her more and we keep her always outside the house.

I love pets and I think everybody should have at least one in his life. However it’s a fish, dog, cat or anything else, because we learn a lot about them; I can understand what Luca wants just by a gesture and they can make you really happy and also make you laugh.

Living in Barcelona, Spain

I’m not very sure, but at this moment I would like to live in Spain, specifically in Barcelona because It seems to have a very nice life style. In urbanism I have been taught about that city and its planning by Cerdá.

First of all it is thought for the pedestrian, favoring the public walking, bicycles and public transport instead of cars. This way they make the public spaces the most important thing. Because of this it doesn’t matters if you live in a small apartment, cause there are plenty of parks and different public space where you can spend your time. I imagine that in that city you never get bored there is an intense night life, it always has big shows and concerts from artist that would never visit Chile.

Also I heard that the working day has less hours than here and that they have more free days.

In consequence, there exists a better lifestyle and I would feel comfortable because they speak my language. Also finding a job wouldn’t be too difficult and I would be able to see every day pretty architecture of incredible architects, like Gaudí.

TV show

For me the best tv show of all times is Friends, it is a sitcom that shows the daily life of 6 friends about thirty who live in the same building in New York and have normal problems, like in relationships and work. But also they get involved in very uncomfortable situations so it is very funny to watch and I always laugh, even if I had already seen the chapter, because the characters are so particular and the actors make an excellent job expressing themselves. So I think the main difference with other sitcoms and reason of it success is the cast.

Another good thing is that you can see any chapter missing the previous one and you can equally understand everything, because there aren’t many drastic changes in the plot and also it is for all ages.

My favorite piece of technology

I would have to say that it is the microwave. I can’t remember my life before I had one. I live with my parents, so the one I have they bought it.

The microwave is like magic, you put your food in for a few minutes and “bualá” your food is hot. It is very helpful because you can cook in the morning,  save it in the refrigerator and eat it at lunch or on the next day without wasting your time cooking again. There is nothing better when you arrive home late than picking a piece of pizza that was left and eating it with the cheese melted in a minute.  I use it almost every day at university because I bring food from my home. The problem is that there were three, but now two of them are broken, so you have to wait a large row to heat your lunch.

Some people criticize that the waves can harm you and live without microwaves, but I don´t care about it; everything is carcinogenic

A GREAT SHOW!

In 2006, I went with my family to a show called Saltimbanco of Cirque du Soleil. It was  in Huechuraba in a circus tent. It was awesome, starting by the music that was alive (which  I loved and had to buy the cd on my way out) to the customs and make-up. Everything was incredible, the movements and choreographies they did surprised me.  Also they shared and played with the public making us laugh.
They came again a few years ago with another show and I wanted to go, but it was too expensive, but if you have never gone to a Cirque du Soleil show you must go, it's worth every penny!
Also you could buy popcorn and take a picture with a "trapecist" after the show.

a little of me

I was born in the capital on a 26 of February, I'm piscis, (no that I care very much) and this year I celebrated my 21 years old making a party in my house with my friends, brothers and a few cousins. I really had a good time because I love dancing and I chose the music, also I made jelly shots of many flavors they are delicious and very easy to prepare.

Lately I'm hearing groups like Passion Pit and Joy division, but I also like Buena vista social club, Soda stereo, Calle 13, Francisca Valenzuela, etc.

Family for me is very important and I think I'm lucky to have a great one. I have a good relationship with my parents, I have a brother of 26 and a sister of 24, we were born very closed to each other so we spend time together in diferent activities. Another member of my family is my dog Luca, it is an eleven years old boxer and in the last year he grew older a lot,  a lot of grey hair appeared in his face and he gets tired very fast. He is lovely, but he slobbers a lot and always stains my pants.

   I studied at Andrée English School and although I hated English at school I had to learn.
I'm a very enthusiast person, so I'm always doing something and now I'm learning to play guitar, it was my frustrated dream because I thought it was imposible, but now I realised it isn't that hard.

Another hobby is watching movies, the last I liked very much was "Enter the void"and it is being played on Cine Arte Alameda, so I recommend it to you. It lasts 2 hours 40 minutes, but it's worth it.
Also I love going to the theather and visiting expositions, but that's something I don't do often.  I'm a fan of GAM because it is very near .

Hello, my name is Valentina,      I'm studing architecture, I'm 21 and I'm taking this English class because I think it's very necessary for everybody to learn English very well. It opens doors making it easier to find a job and it's very useful for your daily life.
English and Spanish are the most spoken languages so I must learn them and speak them fluently in any occasion. In the future I would like to travel to many countries, so I want to learn other languages too, like Italian or Arabic.
      I hope I progress a lot at the end of the semester and that we have a nice atmosphere at the class overcoming the 7 of us our shyness.
